The WCMB 2026 organising committee is proud to announce that several initiatives are preparing travel and/or participation grant offers for conference participants.

Detailed information on all these grants (eligibility, how and when to apply, selection procedure, ...) will become available February 2026.

Belgian National Decade Committee & VLIZ Philanthropy 'The Sea as a Good Cause'

In the framework of The 7th World Conference on Marine Biodiversity, The Sea as a Good Cause and The secretariat of the National Decade Committee for Belgium award participation grants to promising early career marine scientists. We want to offer the young marine researchers the hands-on and in-depth experience of the conference.

10 full package participation grants, each worth 2.500 EUR, are available for Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOPs) from the Global South, enrolled in a BSc-, MSc-, or PhD-programme or in a junior postdoctoral trajectory in marine science, and younger than 35. The 10 grants will be divided in the following categories:

  • 4 grants will be awarded to ECOPs from the Global South of whom the supervisor is known within the network of the WCMB scientific committee,
  • 4 grants will be awarded to ECOPs active at institutes related to VLIZ by its international collaborations, and
  • 2 grants will be awarded to WoRMS editors from the Global South.

The selection will be made based on the motivation letter, presence of the letter of consent and active participation because of an accepted abstract which allows you to give an oral or a poster presentation.

Read all the details in the call for proposals, and send us the application form together with the requested documents to filantropie@vliz.be by March 17, 2026.
